SPECIAL SQUAD OF DC DESTROYS 30 KILOGRAM OF VEGETABLES UNFIT FOR HUMAN CONSUMPTION

In consonance of the firm commitment of the state government to not allow the sale of fruits and vegetables unfit for human consumption under the ‘Tandarust Punjab’ Mission, a team of district administration today destroyed around 30 kilograms of vegetable in local and Nakodar fruits and vegetable market.
A special team constituted by Deputy Commissioner Jalandhar Mr. Varinder Kumar Sharma to accomplish the mission today started the drive early in the morning and the officers led by District Mandi Officer Mr. Varinder Khera, Deputy Director Horticulture Mr. Bhajan Singh Saini and others started the inspection of fruit and vegetable market at Maqsoodan in the morning. Due to tightening of noose by the state government under the mission, though no case of artificial ripening of fruits was detected in the mandi but the team detected 20 kilograms of tomatoes that were completely unfit for human consumption.
Taking cognizance the officers immediately destroyed the unhealthy tomatoes and warned the shopkeepers that such sort of callousness on their part was totally intolerable. Likewise another team of the Market Committee Nakodar carried on similar drive in Nakodar fruits and vegetable market during which seven kilograms of tomatoes and two kilogram of Brinjal, which was found unfit for human consumption was destroyed.
Meanwhile, the District Mandi Officer and Deputy Director Horticulture said that due to crackdown by state government the fruits and vegetable markets have emerged as totally Calcium Carbide free. They said that it was clearly the effect of the ‘Tandarust Punjab Mission’ that artificially ripened fruits, which posed grave danger to human health, was now completely missing from the market.The officers said that the district administration would leave no stone unturned under the ‘Tandarust Punjab’ mission to check the sale of such adulterated food items in the district.
